Race for Life 2017 at the park

Race for Life events are being held at Mote Park on Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9. There’s a 5K and 10K on the Saturday and a muddy, obstacle 5K on the Sunday.

Race for Life: 2013 event details for Mote Park

Mote Park is again a host venue for the 2013 Race for Life and there are two runs on Sunday 7th July; a 10K that starts at 9am and a 5K that starts afterwards at 11:30

Here’s some “getting there” race day details from Cancer Research:

Please arrive at least an hour before the start of your Race for Life event to avoid queuing.

Parking is available at this venue. Please arrive early in order to avoid congestion.

Alternatively, for 10km event at 9am please use town centre car parks. More information regarding drop off point to follow. There will be a bus service from Mote Park to King Street, Maidstone Town Centre, operating after the event.

For 5km event at 11:30am please use London Road and Sittingbourne Road Park and Ride service, buses will start running at 8:50am and will travel to and from Mote Park. The will be no charge for the Park and Ride service but donations on the day would be appreciated. More information regarding drop off point to follow.

Stay with us through the afternoon and celebrate in style in our new picnic area while you enjoy the entertainment and activities on offer for the whole family including crazy golf, inflatable volleyball and live music.

Hazlitt Theatre: Events in the park

The Hazlitt Theatre is organising some events in Mote Park that are taking place later this week:

Bird Song, Wildlife Study Day – Friday 10th May, 9.30am – 3.00pm

This one day course gives you the basics of how to identify bird songs and calls. Birdsong lifts everyone’s spirits and if you ever wondered which birds are creating the particular songs, then this is your chance to find out. Suitable for beginners and less experienced birders, this course combines classroom with being out in the field. You’ll cover everything from how birds produce such wonderful sounds to what they mean, how we interpret them and what sound belongs to which bird.

£28 pp (max of 16 participants)

Wild Foods Walk – Saturday 11th May, 10.30am – 12.30pm

A great opportunity to spend a morning foraging for wild foods with Carol, a local bushcraft expert.

£2.50 pp (max of 20 participants)

Bat Walk Leaders Training – Saturday 11th May, 2.00pm – late

An introduction to bats (ecology and biology), a closer look at our local bats (and how Kent Bat group and the Bat Conservation Trust are helping with their conservation), guidelines on planning and running a bat walk, and use of bat detectors as a survey tool. Followed by a bat walk in the evening. Delivered by

RSPB: All day walk event

Miniature trains running on Boxing Day

trainMaidstone Model Engineering Society have announced on their FaceBook page that their miniature railway line will be running in Mote Park for free rides on Boxing Day.

So after all the eating and drinking of Christmas Day treat yourself to some much-needed fresh with a lovely walk in the park with a train ride thrown in for good measure!
